It was a great night at yesterday’s 55th Annual Drama Desk Awards for La Cage Aux Folles, as the revival production took home not one, not two, but THREE Drama Desk Awards. The most impressive of them all, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, was well deserved even though La Cage had some tough competition in the category (A Little Night Music, Ragtime, Finian’s Rainbow, and Promises, Promises). Douglas Hodge took home one for the team with Outstanding Actor in a Musical for his incredible lead role as Albin, Kelsey Grammars’ character’s partner. La Cage Aux Folles’ final Drama Desk Award of the night went to Matthew Wright for Outstanding Costume Design, proving that his expertise in making glitz and glamor come to life in a male nightclub is off the charts.
